Potty Learning

Potty learning has got to be my least favourite parenting job. It is so much easier to change a diaper and not worry about if there is an accessible bathroom where I am shopping. This summer my two year old started freaking out when you would bring a diaper near him. Not a huge deal on an acreage when he was outside 99% of the time. September brought unexpected snow and much more time inside. He handled it fairly well and we were only having a few accidents a week. Well he decided in November that he hates diapers but he also hates the toilet. It is now January and he hasn’t had a pee accident in almost a month….notice what I left out?? Scraping poop off a wiggly, pissed off toddler has to be pretty close to hell. I have successfully gotten three children through this yet it never gets easier!!

TOP TIPS FOR GETTING YOUR CHILD TO USE THE TOILET:

1. Wait until they are ready and asking

2. Get your mop out. Your floors are about to be as clean as they have ever been

3. If you have carpet….well CONGRATULATIONS! Start picking out your new flooring now.

4. If you have a girl bribing them wth pretty undies and stickers goes a long way!

5. Do not even attempt to get a boy on the potty until they are 5!!

6. Invest in chocolate and wine (or vodka shots)

7. Sense of humour will be what gets you through
